DELAWARE ART MUSEUM ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN WILMINGTON’S
ART ON THE TOWN AND NEW HOURS OF OPERATION

Wilmington, DE (December 1, 2006)—The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to announce it will be a participating venue in the city of Wilmington’s Art on the Town program beginning in February 2007.  Art on the Town features a tour of several art galleries and cultural institutions throughout the city that open their doors for free on the first Friday of select months from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Those who go on the tour will enjoy an exciting, lively evening as they check out a variety of art on display in as many venues as they like.

Art on the Town is held during nine months out of the year: February, March, April, May, June, September, October, November, and December.  A free shuttle bus makes several stops along the tour throughout the evening.  The latest information about Art on the Town can be found at http://www.ci.wilmington.de.us/events.htm.

With the Delaware Art Museum now participating in Art on the Town, the Museum will end its weekly Wednesday-evening program, Art After Hours.  The final date for Art After Hours is Wednesday, December 27, 2006, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., featuring a performance by the BDG All-Stars that starts at 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, the Delaware Art Museum will have new hours of operation beginning January 1, 2007.  The new hours are: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Sunday, noon–4:00 p.m.; and Monday, closed.  The Museum will no longer be open until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Admission prices will remain the same: adults (18–59) $10, seniors (60+) $8, college students $5, and youth (7–17) $3, with children six and under entering for free, and admission free to all visitors on Sundays.

Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum holds a world-renowned collection that focuses on American art and illustration from the 19th to the 21st century as well as the British pre-Raphaelite movement of the mid-19th century.  The Museum offers the outdoor Copeland Sculpture Park, the Helen Farr Sloan Library & Archives, studio art classes, the interactive Kids’ Corner learning area, the delART Café featuring free Wi-Fi access, and the Museum Store with distinctive books and gifts.  Waking Dreams: The Art of the Pre-Raphaelites from the Delaware Art Museum is on an international tour and will return in September 2007.
