DELAWARE ART MUSEUM ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES
FOR 2007 MINIATURES EXHIBITION

Wilmington, DE (February 23, 2007)—The Delaware Art Museum is now accepting entries for its 2007 miniatures exhibition, entitled Precious Spaces: Masterpieces in Miniature, which will be on view November 17, 2007 – January 13, 2008. The annual miniatures exhibition is the Museum’s signature holiday display, with a different Museum- or art-related theme each year. This year, the theme will convey that each vignette is a diminutive masterpiece in its own right and also a showcase for the miniature artist’s interpretation of an original, full-scale work.

Each of the 10 installations will be inspired by a masterpiece of art, according to the entrant’s own definition of “masterpiece.” Entrants are encouraged, though not required, to select a work from the Museum’s own collections. Rather than exact three-dimensional reproductions, the miniatures may be interpretations of the creativity of the original.

Entrants must complete and return an Entry Form to the Delaware Art Museum no later than April 1, 2007. To avoid duplicate entries, entrants must indicate their choice of Artist and Work of Art at this time. Exhibition space is also limited. Entries will be considered in the order they are received.

Unless they submitted entries in 2006, entrants must also submit sample photographs of their previous miniature work to be reviewed by the Exhibition Committee. The Committee will contact applicants with their acceptance status no later than May 1, 2007.

Exhibits must conform to the specifications regarding size, scale, and other requirements as outlined in the exhibition’s Rules and Information.

Museum visitors will vote for the People’s Choice winners. The winning entries will be awarded ribbons for First, Second, and Third Place.

Rules and Information

ENTRY FORMS: Entry Forms indicating choice of Artist and Work of Art and photos of previous miniature work must be submitted to the Museum no later than Sunday, April 1, 2007.

DELIVERY and INSTALLATION: Exhibits must be finished, delivered to the Museum, and installed by the entrant on Friday, November 16, 2007, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Delivery and installation early in the day is preferred.

DIMENSIONS: Exhibits must not exceed an outside measure of 36” wide by 22” deep by 36” high.

SCALE: miniatures will be to the scale of 1 inch equals 1 foot.

DISPLAY: Exhibits will sit on a shelf 24” deep behind a display wall. The shelf will be 12 inches below the viewing window. Viewing windows in the display wall will measure 12” high by 22” wide, and will be protected by Plexiglas panels. The bottom edge of the viewing window will be 50 inches from the floor. Exhibits will be centered behind the display window. Risers and shim material may be needed to match the exhibit to the viewing window. Exhibitors should bring risers and shim material for their installations.

ELECTRICITY: Exhibits will be allowed one standard electrical outlet each. Exhibitors must supply their own extension cords and/or power strips. Exhibit lights should turn on and off from a main switch.

SALES: Exhibits may be offered for sale, but transactions must be handled personally by the exhibitor. Exhibits may not be removed before the close of the exhibition.

WALL LABELS: Information provided on the Entry Form will appear on the exhibit’s identification label. Once accepted, exhibitors may submit explanatory text of no more than 50 words for their label by Monday, November 5, 2007.

REMOVAL: Exhibits must be removed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Removal early in the day is preferred.
