DELAWARE ART MUSEUM ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF
RED APPLE FUND STUDIO ART CLASS GRANTS

Wilmington, DE (December 11, 2006)—The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to announce the availability of Studio Art Classes Grants for the Museum’s Winter Session through the Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment.  These grants will finance individual registration in the Museum’s youth-level studio art classes.  These classes currently include Hurray for Clay! (ages 6–9), Artwise—Part I (ages 6–9), and Artwise—Part II (ages 10 and up).  The total value of a Studio Art Class Grant will depend on whether the student receives full or partial funding for registration.  The current prices for youth-level studio art classes are $115.00 for Museum Members and $140.00 for Non-Members.

To apply for a Studio Art Classes Grant, a parent or guardian must complete the Application Form found at www.delart.org/redapple.html and return it to the Delaware Art Museum along with a statement of need (150 words maximum) by December 31, 2006.  Every student registering for a youth-level studio art class is eligible.  Applicants will be notified concerning the awarding of grants by January 7, 2007; there will be no appeals. The Winter Session of studio art classes begins on January 15, 2007.

If partial funding or no funding is awarded, payment will be requested.  The parent/guardian may choose to cancel the registration at this time.

The Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment was inaugurated in 2006 to further the Delaware Art Museum’s educational mission.  The Red Apple Fund will finance tours of the Museum for school groups as well as individual enrollment in studio art classes and seasonal camps that teach the fundamentals of art.

Generous support for the Red Apple Fund is provided by corporations throughout the region, including AstraZeneca, the first corporate sponsor of this program.

Studio art classes and other educational programs at the Delaware Art Museum are taught in the Bank of America Education Wing.  Classes are available for children and adults of all skill levels. Hurray for Clay! is a fun Friday afternoon class where children can enjoy the magical qualities of clay while creating wacky and beautiful objects.  Artwise classes cover basic drawing, painting, and sculpting as well as the study of artists featured in the Museum’s collection.

Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum holds a world-renowned collection that focuses on American art and illustration from the 19th to the 21st century as well as the British pre-Raphaelite movement of the mid-19th century. The Museum offers the outdoor Copeland Sculpture Park, the Helen Farr Sloan Library & Archives, studio art classes, the interactive Kids’ Corner learning area, the delART Café featuring free Wi-Fi access, and the Museum Store with distinctive books and gifts.
