DELAWARE ART MUSEUM REDUCES ADMISSION PRICES
TO CELEBRATE WILMINGTON’S 175TH ANNIVERSARY

Wilmington, DE (February 13, 2007)— To help celebrate the City of Wilmington’s 175th anniversary on Wednesday, March 7, the Delaware Art Museum will reduce all admission rates beginning Tuesday, March 6, and continuing through Saturday, March 10.  Admission for paying visitors will be $1.75 during this time.  Admission will remain free for Museum Members.

The Delaware Art Museum is an essential part of Wilmington’s history.  It was founded in 1912 to preserve the works of Wilmington native Howard Pyle, founder of the Brandywine School of American Illustration.  Samuel Bancroft, Jr., a successful Wilmington textile manufacturer, assembled the largest collection of British pre-Raphaelite art and manuscript materials in the United States.  In 1935, Bancroft’s family donated his collection to the Delaware Art Museum.  John Sloan’s widow, Helen Farr Sloan, was a long-time Wilmington resident and supporter of the arts.  She donated thousands of her husband’s works and manuscript materials to this Museum, granting it the largest John Sloan collection in the world.

The Delaware Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and Sunday noon–4:00 p.m.  Regular admission is adults (18–59) $10, seniors (60+) $8, college students $5, and youth (7–17) $3, with children 6 and under entering for free, and admission free to all visitors on Sunday.  For more information, call 302-571-9590 or visit the website at http://www.delart.org.
