Supply list—2D Studio: Fun with Drawing and Painting

Instructor: Roe Murray

Rubinstiens in West Chester and Kennett give a 33% discount on your art supply total each time if you are a student or artist. West Chester is better stocked. Coupons are in the paper for AC Moore.

BEGINNERS
Beginners will start with drawing.

  • full sheets of MiTientes, Canson pastel paper in your choice of  colors in mid tones, (no white or cream please)
  • Pastel Pencils, ( Prang with a string to sharpen are good and at Staples)
  • One large kneaded eraser
  • drawing pencils: 2B, 3B, and 6B
  • white conte crayon

EXPERIENCED STUDENTS

Can work in pastel ( nupastels, and or Rembrants, largest box possible), gouache, watercolor (Winsor Newton or Holbien), acrylic , or water mixable oils ( there are many new ones out to try, but dont buy student grade acrylics)

  • Paper or canvas, or board accordingly. Get good paper, it matters.

IF PAINTING:

  • brushes, at least 3 sizes of a round and one flat
  • water container
  • palette

Please no matter what medium: NO BLACK and NO GREY. They take over and are too dull and dark. You will mix your own. Have at least the 3 primaries ( red, blue and yellow) white if using opaque paints, and bring what you have to class the first day and I will go over what you may want to add or subtract from your supplies.

MY GENERAL PERSONAL PALETTE FOR MOST MEDIUMS

  • White
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Burnt Umber
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium
  • Red French Ultramarine Blue
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Prussian Blue
  • Hookers Green
  • Olive Green
  • Permanent Rose
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Violet

Greens and violets can be mixed and are not necessary and can be bought later. If you get one blue have it be French Ultramarine. Rose is not necessary unless you want a pink but white (or water) with red can do for awhile. If saving $ is not an object the whole list is good and makes painting easier.
