Supply list—Plein Air Landscape Painting

Instructor: David Lee Jones

  • French easel or some sort of portable easel
  • Palette-Preferably wood or glass
  • Palette cups (larger the better)
  • Oil Painting medium (Liquin, Sun-thickened Linseed Oil, Sun-thickened Poppyseed Oil)
  • Odorless turpentine (gamsol)
  • Cotton painting rags (for cleaning brushes)
  • Paper towels (for cleaning palette knife)
  • Bristle brushes (larger the better flats and filberts)

Suggested Basic Earth Palette:

  • Flake white #2
  • Yellow ochre pale (Winsor Newtown)
  • Burnt sienna (WN)
  • Indian red
  • Olive green  
  • Raw unmber
  • Colbalt blue

Supports:

There are a variety of materials available for oil painters today.  The first class bring a small to medium canvas.  We will explore alternative supports as the class progresses.
