Learn the tried-and-true methods of painting in this informative class. Whether you are interested in learning the basics of Realism or jumping right into Expressionism, each student will learn according to their needs. 
Supply List
For beginners who wish to learn basics with realism please get the following:  
  • stick charcoal (vine or willow charcoal, about 1/4” thick and usually comes in packs of three sticks)  
  • fat or chunky charcoal (approximately the thickness of a finger)  
  • 2 kneaded erasers  
  • 2 charcoal pencils  
  • regular pencil  
  • stubbs/stumps (paper sticks with pointed ends)  
  • 18” x24" charcoal pad  (specify charcoal only, not an all-purpose pad)  
For those who want to paint please get the following:  
  • Acrylic (fast drying) or water based “open” acrylics paint (slower drying) 
    • Titanium White, large tube
    • Black, large tube
    • Cadmium Red
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • Cadmium Orange
    • Permanent Green or Viridian
    • Pthalo Green
    • Ultramarine Blue
    • Dioxide Purple
    • Ultramarine Blue
    • Quinacridone Violet
    • Yellow Ochre
    • Raw Sienna
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Burnt Umber  
  • sealable painting palette   
  • palette knife  
  • rags (natural cloth is best)  
  • canvas (18”x24” or larger)  
  • brushes (round bristles, flat bristles - big and small)  
  • matte medium (acrylic)  
  • jars for water or thinner  
  • plastic cups with lids for paint storage (approximately the size of baby food containers)
