Join Annette Woolard-Provine Curator of the Pre-Raphaelite Collection, Margaretta Frederick and David Stradley, Producing Artistic Director of Delaware Shakespeare, for a discussion of pre-Raphaelite painter Henry Wallis’s Timon and Flavius. Throughout his career, Wallis’s choice of subject reflected his pre-Raphaelite associations. These included topics of contemporary social justice as well as interpretations of classic literature. Wallis’s Timon and Flavius (1878), inspired by William Shakespeare’s lesser known drama, Timon of Athens, may reflect a bit of both subject genres. Learn more about the life and work of Wallis; why he chose to paint this particular play by the famous bard; and what underlying social themes it may address.
