About The Joe Baione Vibraphone Experience

The vibraphone’s relative rarity in jazz is a curious mystery, especially given its beautiful sound and the influence of legends like Lionel Hampton and Milt Jackson. Joe Baione, however, is a vibrant exception. A virtuoso with a deep passion for the instrument, he brings a fresh yet tradition-honoring voice to jazz. Baione made waves early in his career with Oh Yeah, showcasing his talent as a young vibraphonist steeped in music from childhood. One of three musical brothers, he began playing the vibraphone in ninth grade, studied at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and was mentored by jazz great Benny Golson. Despite the touring opportunities that followed Oh Yeah, Baione chose to stay home and raise his family, teaching band for 27 years while performing locally. Since retiring three years ago, he has returned to the jazz spotlight. His new album, Vibe Check, features six original compositions and three songs written by his late father for a musical over 40 years ago. Joined by longtime collaborators Duane Eubanks, Toru Dodo, Jerome Jennings, and Marco Panascia, Baione blends personal history with vibrant creativity. With Vibe Check, Baione enters a new chapter, cementing his status as a major force on the vibraphone and sharing his stories with the jazz world.
