This month’s films highlight the art of Cinematography! Cinematographers use color, light, shadow, and movement to enhance the director’s vision and evoke emotion. Responsible for the film’s look and visual style, these masters of their craft deserve to step into the carefully orchestrated light and get their recognition. With a great cinematographer, every frame is indeed a painting.

About The Last Emperor

The life of Emperor Puyi, who took the throne in 1908, at age three, before witnessing decades of cultural and political upheaval within and without the walls of the Forbidden City.

Recreating Qing-dynasty China with astonishing detail and unparalleled craftsmanship by cinematographer Vittorio Storaro and production designer Ferdinando Scarfiotti, The Last Emperor is also an intimate character study of one man reconciling personal responsibility and political legacy.

Winner of 9 Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography (Vittorio Storaro), Best Director (Bernardo Bertolucci) and Best Picture.
