Gallery Talk – Transcendent: Landscapes of the Hudson River School with Kayleigh Danowski of Winterthur

What can a seemingly peaceful landscape reveal about a nation at war? Join Kayleigh Danowski, Delaware Art Museum Curatorial Intern and master’s student in the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, for a gallery talk in Transcendent: Landscapes of the Hudson River School exploring how American artists responded to the Civil War without depicting its battles. Through landscapes that appear far removed from the conflict, we will consider how questions of slavery, emancipation, loss, and national identity shaped the ways artists pictured the natural world.
