Join us to relax and unwind with the Museum’s popular Happy Hour series. To respect our indoor capacity limitations as a result of Covid-19, Happy Hour must be cancelled if there is the threat of bad weather. A decision will be made by 3 pm and posted on our website. Please check back for updates and a current list of musicians. Museum galleries are open with free admission every Thursday from 4-8 pm.
The Tony Smith Quartet features Wilmington’s own Tony Smith on trumpet, Bill Dilks on organ, Alvin Alexander on saxophone, and Wayne Morgan on drums. This group of amazing musicians perform an array of musical styles ranging from straight ahead jazz, to the blues to swing to bebop to smooth jazz and “back to the roots” soul.
Tony was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, he currently resides in New Castle, Delaware. He began playing the trumpet in elementary school in the Wilmington Public School System. After graduating from Howard High School and he earned a scholarship to attend Delaware State College and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Music Education. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Wilmington University and went on to study music with world renowned jazz master Robert “Boysie” Lowery. Tony also worked as a teacher at Christina Cultural Arts Center and an administrator in Brandywine School District. He retired from education in 2006 and now performs regularly at churches, jazz clubs, and music festivals in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and beyond presenting a variety of music genres with an emphasis on jazz and gospel in small ensemble settings i.e. solo, duet, trio, quartet, quintet, and more.
