Poetry As Activism

The following women visual artists have created artwork based on my poetry collection inspired by Alice Walker’s book, The Color Purple. More specifically, the poems focus on the actual color, purple, and its royal nature in relation to my identifying as a Caribbean American and person of color. The multi-textured artwork conveys the nuance of perspective and interpretation based on the poems’ titles. The poems are not included as a way of allowing interpretation of the visual work from the viewer’s perspective.
