Featured musician: HEZEKIAH is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He is the founder of the Original producer showcase, Beat Society, and the lead singer of the band, Johnny Popcorn. He has produced for artists such as Zap Mama, Eric Roberson, Blu, and Wordsworth, and has written songs for singer Bilal. He has released Many solo albums, Hurry Up & Wait (2005), I Predict a Riot (2007), Conscious Porn (2010), The Ishe + Hezekiah Project (2011), Dreams Don’t Chase Themselves (2015, and The Universe Does Not Reward Fear (2020). He has also scored for the Showtime series, Street Time, and the PBS documentary, First Person.
Bebe Coker will perform poetry by Dr. James Newton. Performances by student finalists from the 2024 Poetry Out Loud competition. The evening will be emceed by Dr Traci Currie, University of Delaware Poetry as Activism Residency Fellow and Poetry Out Loud Coordinator. This event is part of a collaboration between the Delaware Art Museum and the University of Delaware to celebrate James E. Newton’s legacy as an artist, UD professor, and leader in the Delaware community. Exhibitions are on view at the Delaware Art Museum, UD’s Mechanical Hall Gallery and UD’s Morris Library.
