Operations Technician

Primary Objective

The Operations Technician plays a key role in ensuring that the Delaware Art Museum provides a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all visitors, staff, and artists. Working as part of the Operations team, this position supports the day-to-day upkeep and smooth functioning of the Museum’s physical spaces, contributing directly to an exceptional visitor experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Operations Technician will:

  • Support the maintenance and safety of all Museum facilities, including interior and exterior spaces, with a focus on public areas and galleries.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks, coordinating with Operations personnel as needed.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems throughout the building are functional and properly maintained.
  • Provide event support, including the setup and breakdown of equipment for programs, rentals, and special events (e.g., tables, chairs, tents, stages, audio-visual equipment, and catering areas).
  • Maintain custodial supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage, upkeep, and readiness for use.
  • Assist other departments with operational and maintenance needs as requested.
  • Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs and support the Operations Team with troubleshooting as needed.
  • Help maintain compliance with all safety and inspection standards and Museum best operating practices.
  • Be available for a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call support.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in facilities, custodial services, or building maintenance preferred, with a willingness to learn current best practices and safety standards.
  • Proficient in modern custodial practices and understanding of appropriate materials and equipment for museum floor and glass care.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivated, reliable, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude with flexibility, initiative, and a sense of humor.
