Weekend Front Line Lead

Status: Part-Time up to 20 hrs/wk., Primarily Weekend Position

Position Summary

The Weekend Front Line Lead serves as the senior onsite front-line staff member during weekend operations, providing leadership, support, and problem-solving when department managers are not onsite. This position ensures a welcoming, safe, and well-organized experience for visitors while supporting the daily operations of the Delaware Art Museum.

Working across Visitor Services and Ambassador functions, the Front Line Lead on Duty serves as a resource for staff, responds to visitor needs and operational issues, and helps coordinate the front line during busy periods, events, and unexpected situations. This position requires strong customer service, sound judgment, conflict-management skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Weekend Leadership & Operations

  • Serve as the onsite lead and primary point of contact for front-line operational issues during assigned weekend shifts.
  • Provide guidance and support to Ambassadors and Front Desk staff, helping ensure consistent service and adherence to Museum policies and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional, welcoming, and inclusive customer service to visitors, members, artists, renters, and guests.
  • Respond confidently and professionally to visitor concerns, questions, conflicts, and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Act as a floater when needed, providing coverage for the Front Desk, galleries, entrances, and other visitor-facing areas.
  • Communicate significant incidents, concerns, or operational needs to the appropriate manager or department.
  • Assist console and Ambassador team with Museum opening and closing procedures.
  • Support event setup, breakdown, and other operational needs as necessary.

Systems & Museum Knowledge

  • Develop familiarity with Museum operations, including visitor services, security procedures, collections, programs and events, and other visitor-facing functions.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable emergency phone lists, contacts, and escalation procedures, emergency procedures, evacuation routes, emergency contacts, and the appropriate order of notification.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and other unexpected situations while maintaining a calm and professional presence.
  • Maintain basic familiarity with the Security Console, relevant building systems and incident-reporting procedures.
  • Participate in required safety, emergency response, and CPR/First Aid training, as applicable.
  • Become proficient in Altru and other systems necessary to support front-line operations.
  • If applicable and eligible, obtain and maintain required ABC/server certification to support Museum events and beverage service.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, visitor services, retail, events, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle challenging situations with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions within established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and organized during emergencies, high-volume periods, or unexpected situations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • At least 21 years of age preferred due to potential responsibility for alcohol service at Museum events.

Schedule & Physical Requirements

  • Regular weekend availability is required, including Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Coverage for weekday evening events, special programs, or other operational needs may also be required.
  • Ability to remain on one’s feet for extended periods and move throughout the Museum and grounds.
  • Ability to assist with event setup and breakdown, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, signage, and other event materials.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changing conditions throughout the Museum.

Success in This Role

Success in the On Duty Front Line Lead role means being a dependable and confident presence when managers are not onsite. The successful candidate will know the Museum, understand its procedures, support their colleagues, and use good judgment to address issues before they escalate. They will create a welcoming visitor experience while ensuring that weekend operations remain safe, organized, and responsive. The ideal candidate is someone that is a confident go-to person to resolve issues as they arise or know exactly who to contact for support.

Compensation and Benefits

Our pay is $18-19/hr. Employees are eligible for a 403(b) plan, museum membership, employee discounts and free parking.
